From politics to local culture

Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium highlights Denmark's EU Presidency with support from the European Council.

From July to December 2025, Denmark will hold the European Presidency, and in this connection, NTL has received support to raise awareness for the EU through artistic activities.

Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium will be presenting 6 events during this six-month period, which will all use art to foster conversation and community. These events are part of the "Together for EU" project.

"We are very happy to be able to promote the EU Presidency, and to start a conversation about the importance of the EU in local areas. The support from the European Council is not just financial, it is a trust in the ability to transform big politics into shared stories through creativity," says Jenny Crissey, International Producer at NTL.

Special focus on integration and youth engagement

Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium receives support from the European Commission to carry out two of the planned activities through "Together for EU". The support is for “Young Catchy News” and “International Winter Celebration”, which examine youth engagement and integration, respectively.

"Young Catchy News" is a workshop and exhibition in collaboration with the older students at Sønderlandsskolen. It explores young people’s relationship to news and media coverage, and aims to start conversations about our way of sharing information.

"International Winter Celebration" is a popular celebration of different cultural traditions associated with winter, including Lucia, Christmas, and New Year’s traditions from different countries. The celebration brings our different celebration rituals together, offering a festive experience, where both well-known and unknown traditions are represented side by side. This event takes place in the new local venue Kedlen, which Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium is a part of.

Everyone can learn more about the EU

“Together for EU” will offer events that support the work that Denmark is actively involved in as an EU member, looking at relevant themes through an artistic lens.

“The EU presidency is an obvious opportunity to focus on important themes and learn more about what the EU stands for. Through dialogue and social communities, we hope that our events give some insight into the values we stand for as an EU country,” says Jenny Crissey.

In addition to the two activities supported by the European Commission, “Together for EU” also includes two shows, a family event for families with young children, and a public event during Varde Art Week.

These six events are held in collaboration with the European Union, Alslev School (Varde), Sønderlandsskolen (Holstebro), the Klub90 association, and Kedlen cultural venue, amongst others.
