The last egg of the mother duck finally hatches and a duckling that none of the other animals in the duck pond understand comes out. What is its strange colour and shape, and is it any good at all?
The story of the Ugly Duckling is told by three bored pigeons who decide to play the whole adventure together. They dress up and get so much into the roles that they almost forget that it was just supposed to be a fun game...
In the PixiOpera The Ugly Duckling, the musical excerpts include Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro and The Magic Flute, Carl Nielsen's Maskarade, Peter Heise's Drot og Marsk, Franz Lehár's The Merry Widow and Emmerich Kálmán's The Princess of Czardas.
