The Village Academy (Landsby Akademiet) has a clear mission: to give local citizens the opportunity to experience how art is created and can grow, while at the same time giving artists the chance to explore new opportunities outside the larger cities.
We are convinced that art has a special ability to create connections between people and society. That is why we strive to initiate projects where art and creativity meet the local communities and report them in innovative ways. Inspired by the great efforts that actor Kai Bredholt and flamenco dancer Erika Sanchez have made in their West Jutland village, Idom, located outside Holstebro, we want to bring the same enthusiasm for art and creativity to other villages.
In Idom, several locals have participated in various artistic projects, which range from shared meals to clown schools and performances in stables or in the fields. In this artistic community, both the local inhabitants, their horses and Kai and Erika themselves have fully committed themselves.
The Village Academy kicked off in June 2022 and will run until 2025.

- Inspire and motivate the local community residents and villagers to see the value in their surroundings and participate in activities.
- Show and share examples of how the local community can be nurtured and developed.
- Foster a strong and committed sense of community among village residents.
- Highlight and disseminate methods and tools for creating meeting places and developing the local environment.
- Engage developers, planners and researchers in rural development and the arts to participate in and contribute to the Academy's activities.
- Position the academy as an important resource for method development and implementation of rural development projects.
