Mask workshop with Nauta Teatro
The workshop focuses on the world of masks, specifically the theatrical mask from different perspectives: the expressive mask, the half mask or the body mask.
Nauta Theatre has chosen the mask as the core element of its research for several reasons.
First of all, because it is a transforming element, it helps to transform the body and to make oneself serve the body and its dynamics.
The mask is the perfect representation of social archetypes and so we can use it to question them, to deconstruct them and to explore what there is underneath.
In a society that focuses on itself and puts the person and the face before the artistic phenomenon, the mask takes us away from this theme and helps us to understand the theatrical metamorphosis in its greatest expression.
As a company, they create their own research on the mask and propose to show their own methodology and research that they carry out.
The group will also discuss the EFFEA research, exploring the expression of gender identity through theatrical expression, specifically the theatrical mask from different perspectives: the expressive mask, the half mask or the body mask as a drag queen or king.
They will explore the possibility that there is a parallel between mask and gendered expression, understood as a socially constructed dynamic.
In this session they will talk about the following topics within the mask game
- Introduction to movement theatre and body expression
- Introduction to the theatrical mask: the form and body of the mask
- Exploring gender expression from the dynamic
- Exploring gender archetypes and stereotypes through the mask
