Take a seat! Sit down! You have been benched! Put away! Put together! Are you in the right seat?
BENCHED is a raw and honest story about the big and small questions of life. About sitting down and getting comfortable. About daring to sit askew and sitting in the way; about being put in your place, being put away or getting benched. About taking, creating and making space, and preferably remembering to do so before you fall on your ass when you reach the end of the bench.
In BENCHED, five male dancers climb on, cling to and throw themselves at a long bench in the hope of finding a meaningful standpoint in a chaotic world. Uppercut Danseteater highlights the dilemmas of our individualistic society with this performance, as the dancers are forced to pick their battles and fight for what they are truly passionate about. BENCHED is a timeless piece about finding one's place and one's spot on the bench of life.
In classic Uppercut style, the performance offers a fusion of contemporary dance, break dance, street dance, capoeira, acrobatics, and physical theatre. It was made without rules, but rather with a liberated sense of joy in dancing and a strong artistic curiosity for the possibilities of movement and being moved in those grand moments that can happen when people meet.
The performance is presented by Uppercut Danseteater, and swings by Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium as part of Turnénetværk Danmark.
