RED FLAGS – KILLINGS OF WOMEN IN DENMARK
There are 536 reasons for this performance to exist – that being the number of women killed in Denmark between 1992 and 2016.
Red Flags – Killings of women in Denmark is a performance built around three stories: one depicting a murder attempt and two describing murders of women in Denmark. The stories are read by Line Vaaben, author, journalist, and editor of Eksistensen at Politiken.
The performance is based in part on Vaaben and forensic physician, PhD Asser Hedegård Thomsen's book "A predictable crime – femicide in Denmark" (DA: En forudsigelig forbrydelse – kvindedrab i Danmark) published by Forlaget 28B. It also draws on Thomsen's PhD thesis "Homicide in Denmark 1992-2016" from 2020, which documents femicide cases in Denmark during this period.
NOTE: the performance takes place in the main building at VIA University College
