The venue, Straw Colosseum, facilitates a diverse mixture of cultural performances and activities from 9th of June until 13th of June during the Festive Week.
In the Festuge you will get the opportunity to experience The Idom Biennal's extraordinary Straw Colesseum - an original theater stage surrounded by a stand made of over 300 straw bales (96 big bales and 145 Morten Korch bales), which in total weighs over 60 tons. It seats 350 audience members, and allows you to experience shows with both actors, a circus artist, a flamenco dancer, horses, trade-ins, choir, folk dancers and evolutionary parades.
Straw Colosseum came to life in the village Idom-Råsted, where "The Villagelaboratorium" and "The Idom Biennal" was created - Idom-Råsted does not have a theater, and so it was decided that every other year, as a frame for The Idom Bienal, a Colosseum had to be built, and the fastest and most sustainable way to do this, was to build it out if straw bales borrowed from farmers.
As a gift to Holstebro for their 750th anniversary, Idom-Råsted has chosen to borrow their DNA to the city - The Idom Biennal Straw Colosseum is moving to the big city, and is thereby getting even closer to the original Colosseum in Rome, Italy.
It will be placed in the heart of Holstebro between schools, gymnasiums, residential areas and senior facilities. Many actitivites will happen on this stage – the main show “FRA LANDSBY TIL KULTURBY (from village to cultural city)” is played five times, and furthermore there will be other events during the days, that make use of this unique theater stage; these are among others trades - a sort of performance where different performers exchange talents and perform for each other. Other than that, there will be choir, where lovely music will entertain you, and Kids Barter (a sort of trade by children), where different groups of either kindergarteners or school children with their teachers share with each other, how they work with art and music.
Everything is possible on this stage – and that gets taken advantage of!
The different actitivites will get their own online events as we get closer to the week, and there might be new actitivtes added with time.
